The Dodgers have avoided salary arbitration with catcher Russell Martin, signing him to a one-year, $3.9 million contract, according to a major-league source.
The deal is the largest ever awarded to a catcher in his first year of arbitration.
Martin, who turns 26 on Feb. 15, batted .280 with 13 homers and 69 RBIs last season, appearing in 155 games.
Martin was an All-Star each of the last two seasons for the Dodgers.

Lower than expected in regards to Martin.
Only Ethier to go.
I'm glad they avoided the arbitration process with Martin and Broxton (1-yr/$1.8M). There aren't too many negative things you can say about Martin, Broxton or Ethier for that matter.
So hopefully they reach an agreement with Ethier before his hearing as well.
I'd hate to see these guys harbor any resentment towards the organization in the future.
Doc, I agree. I hate the arbitration process because it creates an us vs. them mentality. It's one thing to negotiate face to face (which is what I believe will happen before Ethier goes to a hearing), but when you have to present a case to a 3rd party on why your player doesn't deserve to be paid it fosters a feeling of resentment.
Let's hope Ethier and the club can reach agreement soon.
