Throwing a name in the hat

If we must start thinking about what the heck to do when Vin decides to hang it up (and there will come a time unfortunately), Matt Vasgersian would be a fine candidate to join the Dodgers TV broadcasts. He recently parted ways with the San Diego Padres after 7 years of broadcasting for the Friars. He's reported to join the new MLB Network as their lead anchor. I've heard Vasgersian on some of Fox's national coverage, and i have to admit that i didn't dislike his style.

Ok, i started it. Now let's hear some other options.

While I'm not well versed in other broadcasters I don't believe the Dodgers will ever allow a one man booth. In the days of pre-game shows with 5 panelists, networks and organizations might opt in favor of the more popular two man booth. A revolving door of Steve Lyons and a "flavor of the year" is a definite possibility for the immediate future.

Never again will be see the likes of Vin Scully. I can't imagine any organization turning over sole broadcasting duties to a sole 20-something announcer.

I hate Vaginaman. He would be the worst option to "replace" Vin. That may be my biast against him since he was part of the Padres broadcast team, but I still don't like how he bashed on the Dodgers any time we were there. He is the equivalent of John Miller and Joe Morgan to the Giants.

I didn't believe for one second that Vasgerian could take the reins all by himself. He would need a color analyst to support his play by play.

Matt Vasgersian's new gig with the MLB network (located in NY) will probably keep him tied down for a few years at least.

Brandon basically nailed it. They don't make 'em like Vin anymore. We are in a new era of broadcasting. 'Homer'ism is a growing trend, and play-by-play/analyst combos are w/o objectivity.

As far as handing a young guy the job...I agree, no team will ever do that again. They'd rather give the job to some hack (Steiner) then give an up-and-comer a shot.

The Lakers almost got it right when they hired Spero Dedes. But they have him stuck on radio...I'd rather have him and Mychal Thompson simulcast than listen to Joel Myers and Stu. It's quite obvious they should replace Joel's tired face. Spero will have to wait it out before he gets on TV...for the time being he still is a rare example of a young guy with a great opportunity.

All good broadcasting jobs (opportunities) go to former players and the sons of former/current broadcasters.
